Way back in the Middle Ages you didn't have a rock garden. If you did, you would have been tried as a witch just for that alone due to English lore. It origonated with the Celtic tradition of having them. They did, didn't they? They did. To hide them from prying eyes, they were guarded by having a garden grown around them. They were planted with magickal herbs and other plants.
The traditional size of the rocks were twelve the size of your fist, twelve the size of your head, and twelve to your knees, giving you the total of thirty-six stones. Layon the ground with your feet touching the center, marking where your head lies. This is the diameter of the first circle. Use the small twelve stones to create the circle as if you're making the face of a clock.Lay down again with your feet on the circumference, head pointing away from the center. Mark your head location and lay your second circle with middle sized stones; the size of your head. Do step two again with the large stones around the first two circles. Each circle should have the length of your body.
1) Inside the first circle is the realm of Earth is where you plant Valerian, Lady Slipper, Skullcap, and Wormwood.
2) On the outside of the first circle is the realm of Water where you plant Catnip, Hops, Black Willow, and Echinacea.
3) On the outside of the second circle is the realm of Air where you plant Chamomile, Marigold/Calendula, Yarrow, and Vervain.
4) On the outside of the third circle is the realm of Fire where you plant Goldenseal, St. John's Wort, Buckthorn/Cascara, and White Oak.
They are the material realms.
